I just purchased an Whites MXT 300 metal detector. I went to Newport Beach and tried it out for about and hour and a half. I found 3 quarters, 4 dimes, 2 nickels and 4 pennies. The shallowest depth was 3 inches and the deepest was approx 12 inches. I love my MXT, very easy to use and is pretty accurate.
